Family Therapy

Family therapy is a multifaceted approach that can be tailored to meet the unique dynamics and challenges of different family structures. When working with teens and their siblings, therapy often focuses on improving communication and fostering empathy. Sibling relationships can be fraught with competition, jealousy, or resentment, particularly during the tumultuous teenage years. The goal is to create a safe space where siblings can explore their relationships and learn to support each other, ultimately strengthening their bond.

In sessions involving parents and teens, the focus often shifts towards bridging the generational gap and addressing issues such as authority, independence, and trust. Adolescents commonly struggle with a desire for autonomy while still relying on parental guidance, which can lead to conflicts. As a family therapist, I work to mediate these conflicts by encouraging open dialogue and setting clear, mutually agreed-upon boundaries. This empowers teens by giving them a voice in family decisions while helping parents maintain a supportive and guiding role.

When engaging with adult children and their parents, therapy often revolves around redefining roles and expectations as family members transition into new stages of life. Adult children may be navigating their own identities and life paths, while parents may struggle with letting go of their traditional roles. Therapy sessions might focus on resolving old conflicts or misunderstandings and fostering a new, more balanced relationship. The ultimate goal is to help families move beyond historical grievances and develop healthier, more supportive relationships that acknowledge and respect each individual's autonomy and growth.

Often, families come to me frustrated by their dynamics. They are fighting, frequently raising their voices, but never feeling heard. They want to find understanding and create a more peaceful household.
